The Exhibit Fabrication and Manufacturing Process: An Inside Look

The actual process of building your trade show booth can be hard for clients to visualize. So much goes into each custom booth! Here’s a breakdown of what happens behind the scenes, plus important considerations from the buyer perspective to ensure that you end up with an exhibit that meets your specific needs.

1. Pre-Manufacture Checklist

Before the exhibit fabrication process begins, be sure to check these important steps off your to-do list:

  • Identify Trade Show Goals:

Your team and your design team should have an excellent understanding of your key trade show objectives, such as gaining new leads, networking, or launching a new product

  • Aligned on needs/Requirements:

When you invest in a custom booth, you can expect that your specific booth requirements, such as product displays, meeting rooms, or presentation areas, will be incorporated.

  • Approved rendering:

Your trade show booth design team should present a rendering that displays booth concept, dimensions, etc. Every detail should be to your specifications before approval.

  • Finalized trade show graphics:

Your trade show graphics will be presented separately from your rendering.

  • Received and accepted pricing/proposal:

All expenses should be listed clearly and within your budget. You’re most likely to stay on budget when manufacturing/fabrication are completed in-house rather than outsourcing some components.

2. Exhibiting Fabrication: Fusing Art and Technology at Exhibit Options

In the exhibit fabrication phase, we create custom display elements with unique details to meet your trade show goals.

  • Fabrication Methods:

Exhibit Options uses traditional functions like custom carpentry and woodworking along with advanced 3D technology and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machines. CNC machines carve out intricate shapes and profiles in aluminum and steel.

Along with processes like extrusion cutting, tube bending, and welding, CNC technology allows us to build a dynamic display unlike any other on the show floor.

  • Fabrication Materials:

Metal, paint, wood, laminate, acrylic are commonly used materials, along with all varieties of lighting and fabric.

  • Graphic Displays:

Our experts can produce artwork on a variety of fabrics, which then take a couple of weeks to be cut and sewn into place - typically 3 business day turn after proof approval:

    • Silicone Edge Graphics (SEG) Fabric - printed fabric signage with thin silicone beading sewn around the edges to fit into edgeless framing
    • Satin
    • Sheer
    • Vinyl
    • PVC
    • Canvas

3. Budget determination factors

You worked hard to determine your budget, and your exhibit house should work just as hard to stick to it! Here are the key factors in determining exhibit fabrication costs:

  • Trade show booth type and size:

Understandably, larger exhibits will incur greater booth construction costs due to increased material and labor requirements. However, even the type of exhibit you select can influence costs. For example, an island booth has four sides requiring fabrication and graphics, whereas a peninsula booth only has three.
  • Design materials

Some materials have a higher degree of luxury or durability, which is usually reflected in the overall exhibit fabrication costs. A great exhibit house knows where to splurge on the top-of-the-line option, and where cost-friendly materials will work.
  • Venue parameters:

Some venues have requirements and restrictions that may cause additional expenses during the fabrication process.

4. Choosing the right exhibit house

Working with a skilled and experienced turn-key exhibit house can help you craft exhibits that make an impact and meet your trade show objectives. Incorporating an array of styles, textures, technology, and sensory allows you to accurately and effectively convey your message to attendees, and deliver results.

Exhibit Options doesn’t outsource a single step of the fabrication process. This means everything is created to perfectly match our rendering, with no compromises along the way.
