Unum Insurance, a company that has cemented its reputation as a protective shield for its clients, offers a robust array of insurance products designed to provide financial security and peace of mind. Their mission is to help millions of people gain affordable access to disability, life, accident, critical illness, dental, and vision coverage through the workplace — benefits that help them protect their families, their finances, and their futures.
At the HR Tech Conference in 2023, Unum aimed to convey this sense of security and innovation through a custom-built 20x20 exhibition island booth that was both inviting and indicative of their forward-thinking approach.
The challenge in designing Unum's exhibition space lay in creating an environment that was both interactive and informative while encapsulating the company’s 175-year legacy of trust and service.
The booth had to stand out in a crowded expo, highlighting Unum's commitment to connectivity and communication in the digital age — particularly challenging given the limited footprint of a 20x20 island space.

Exhibit Options rose to the occasion with a design that was as functional as it was eye-catching. The centerpiece of Unum's booth was a state-of-the-art podcasting sound booth, constructed from clear acrylic to serve as a striking focal point within the exhibit. This innovative feature not only showcased Unum's engagement with modern communication platforms but also provided a live interactive experience for attendees.
The booth’s design was complemented by a 3D halo lighted logo, suspended above to draw eyes upward and create an ambient glow. Three 85” TVs were strategically placed to provide dynamic visual content, further engaging visitors. The sides of the demo and broadcast tower were adorned with lighted blue plexglass, a design choice that echoed Unum's brand colors and added a vibrant flair to the exhibit.
Adding to the booth’s interactive elements, an “On Air” sign signaled live recordings, while a digital scrolling sign announced the podcast interviewee, providing real-time updates and drawing attendees into the experience.
In a nod to the company’s storied history, a faux ivy tower was not only an aesthetically pleasing addition but also served as a novel “Cake Pop” giveaway station, where attendees were invited to celebrate Unum's 175th anniversary with a sweet treat — a clever tactic for increased engagement.
SEG fabric graphics enveloped the space, providing high-quality, visually compelling backdrops that were in line with the company’s branding. A neon sign within the ivy tower offered a modern twist on classic signage, bringing a sense of liveliness to the company's rich heritage.
Through thoughtful design and engaging interactive elements, Exhibit Options crafted a booth that encapsulated Unum Insurance’s mission of connectivity and protection. The exhibit stood out at the HR Tech Conference, not just for its innovative use of space but also as a celebration of Unum's significant milestone, effectively bridging the gap between the company’s venerable history and its modern, technology-forward approach.
